1101 Kms: NEW WORLD DISTANCE RECORD
Ramón Morillas Salmerón has beaten its own record of distance, flying 1101 Kms from Jerez de la Frontera (Cádiz) to Lanzarote Island. Taking off (was very dificult) at 6h40 a.m. without wind, with more than 100 Kgs on his back, and landing at 9h15 p.m. (8h15 in Lanzarote) with 1 hour more of day light and quite a lot of fuel near Famara, in Lanzarote, without any problem, and with fuel for flying 4 hours more!!!
During the trip he could eat and tinkle without any matter, and he flew with a quite good comfort, even if the wind was not sufficiently strong enough,(keeping a cruise speed of 80kms/h), he decided to insure the landing, and took the direction of the first Island (Lanzarote). The reason is because if he stay sort before the arrival at Tenerife , the helicopter could not rescue him untill the day after (they only rescue with the day light).
This paraengine is a prototype designed for the crossing, with a Ros 100 cc. and 6 fuel tanks, worked perfectly during all the training and the 14 hours of the distance record.
From PAP Team we want to give a strong hug to Ramón for offering us this exciting day, which we follow all day, and to Draco Team who support him at any moment. Our gratitude also to everybody who make possible this challenge, and specially to the Spanish Air Army who took care of Ramón security, and to all the institutions (Los Realejos, Jerez de la Frontera, the Andalusian and Canarian Communities), FAE and RACE organisations, as well as the sponsorings you can find of the web http://www.draconexion.com/latravesia/ , whom support this ambicious project.
